Manchester Craft and Design Centre’s Victorian market building reached a milestone 150th birthday this year!

Our building first opened its doors in 1873 and was part of the bustling Smithfield Markets. The majority of the markets were demolished in 1978 and the remaining disused retail fish market was converted into Manchester Craft Village in 1982. Now, Manchester Craft and Design Centre is committed to developing talent and making craft accessible to all.

Please help us do this by becoming a monthly donor today.

Your support will go towards activities such as:

  • Looking after our beautiful Victorian building for everyone to enjoy, which costs over £30,000 per year to maintain and run

  • Community projects, opportunities for volunteers, free events and family friendly activities

  • Providing high quality free exhibitions showcasing excellence in craft and design

  • Developing and supporting makers across the North West through networking events and training

  • Nurturing new talent through our graduate and diverse maker programmes
