For the second year in a row we have awarded three Textiles and Surface Design graduates from the University of Bolton the opportunity to run a four-day pop up show here at MCDC in September. We will also give them installation support and digital promotion, and a discounted place at one of our Creative Business Development workshops.
The standard of work this year was outstanding, so much so we selected three designers (instead of two as we’d expected)! Our 2016 award winners are Luke Mason, Abbie McAndrews and Cheyenne Slater.
We were drawn to Luke’s architecture inspired designs and his enthusiasm for the opportunity.
His collection of home interior fabrics, wall coverings and stationery products have been inspired by a large body of visual imagery captured on a trip to Italy.
We were impressed with Abbie’s range of work and styles, and found her wallpaper collection to be particularly strong.
Abbie’s work aims to capture and preserve the textures and shapes found in nature, before global warming and human impact cause them to change or disappear forever.
Cheyenne’s combination of beautiful floral designs and geometric shapes really stood out for us.
Her work is inspired by her passion for origami; she combines simple linear folds with repeated parallel lines to create the striking 3D wallpaper.
Once again this was a brilliant show for the University of Bolton students, the show is on until 25 June so make sure you go and see it for yourself!
