Memories are made by… Lee Page Hanson

As part of this year’s Christmas campaign we’re celebrating the power of handmade and the makers behind the one-of-a-kind gifts on offer everyday at MCDC. This week we speak to established ceramicist, Lee Page Hanson, whose collection you can see in Studio 4.

How many years have you been resident at MCDC?

I originally began working in Manchester Craft Centre in 1998 under two other potters and then I became self employed in 2001.

What are the main inspirations behind your work?

I draw a lot of inspiration whilst walking & photographing landscapes when I’m not in the Centre. I explore ceramic decoration techniques and use bird imagery to do this. Pinterest is a really helpful tool for my practice, particularly gathering inspiration for my geometric collections from images of 20th Century Modernism. I am inspired by contemporary ceramics too and love abstract art, and I also draw on Japanese and Indian colours, patterns and style.

What is the most memorable commission or customer purchase of your work you have ever received? 

My tile installation in the Manchester Airport, ‘Escape Lounge’ was good fun.

What is your favourite thing about Manchester Craft & Design Centre on the run up to Christmas? 

Seeing friends & customers that pop in to say hello.
