We’ll be looking a little closer at the work and stories behind this year’s Christmas campaign and we kick off this week with one of Manchester Craft & Design Centre’s longest serving resident makers.
Anne Rowson of RA Designer Jewellery celebrates her 30th year in business at Manchester Craft and Design Centre on November 19, 2016. As this milestone year approaches we ask her about her inspirations, memories and thoughts about Christmases past, present and future…
What are the main inspirations behind your work and where do they come from?
My inspiration come from several sources. Sometimes I’m inspired by the materials I use, it could be the shape or the colour of a beautiful stone. Quite often a piece I have made will create inspiration for another. My main work is commission based so my customers are a great source of inspiration.
What is the most memorable commission or customer purchase of your work you have ever received?
There have been many over the years but most recently one of the most beautiful of my makes was for David who proposed to Amy. She loves it! [Above]
What is the most memorable Christmas gift you have received?
A perfectly beautiful white orchid.
What is your favourite thing about Manchester Craft & Design Centre on the run up to Christmas?
My favourite thing about the centre at Christmas is when it’s dark… the beautiful glass facade of our Victorian building lit up with Christmas lights and decorations.
Why should people buy handmade gifts this Christmas?
Buying handmade from a person with a passion and love for making is giving a gift made with love.
Can you recommend a truly memorable gift for this Christmas?
