Last week we said goodbye to Elizabeth Winstanley’s beautiful tactile illusions exhibition. Dismantling the exhibition and packing away all 61 pieces under the sunny glass roof was a long and sweaty task (greatly helped by a short Oak St. Cafe cake break…)
It was sad to see Liz’s contemporary embroidery work for the last time but we can’t wait to see what she creates next as she is off to London in September to study an MA in Textiles at The Royal College of Art. We all wish her the best of luck for the future!
No sooner as Liz’s work came down we got stuck into our next exhibition, Makers Dozen Collaborate. Consisting of six core Manchester-based makers who met whilst studying at Manchester School of Art at Manchester Metropolitan University, and six invited guest artists, Makers Dozen is the culmination of collaborative exchange between the twelve makers and a person, company or material that they have never worked with before. This exhibition very much showcases the process of the collaborations rather than the final products. Here is a sneaky peak of the brilliant pieces of craft and design they have created that celebrate, encourage and inspire collaboration.
Make sure you join us at our launch event on Thursday 17th at 6-8pm, there’ll be a chance to meet the Dozen and their collaborators, tuck in to some collaboration-inspired refreshments, and enjoy the new exhibition accompanied by Ailsa McLaggan DJ-ing.
