University of Bolton Pop-up Exhibition Showcase Winners
BY Manchester Craft and Design Centre
02/07/21
We are delighted to announce the winners of our 2021 Pop-up Exhibition Showcase with The University of Bolton’s Textiles in Practice degree.
Each year we select graduates with exceptional talent and passion to create a pop-up exhibition at Manchester Craft and Design Centre. The showcase is a chance to present and sell their work to the public, design and install an exhibition and receive specialist advice from the team and Manchester Craft and Design Centre. The exhibition will open in January 2022.
This year, we have selected three award winners, Emese Barna, Denise Gouviea and Ellie Bolton.
We loved Ellie Bolton’s detailed illustrations of jellyfish, shells and other underwater wildlife and were really impressed at the innovative 3D applications of her fabric, including lighting pieces.
Emese Barna’s mix of geometric shapes and natural illustrations were really striking we particularly liked her plant-able cards inlaid with seeds. We loved her in-depth research into the impact humans have on the environment translated into her final pieces.
Denise Gouviea’s expert use of colour and understanding of design trends was immediately obvious in her graduate collection. We loved her creative use of both digital and hand screen printed fabrics to produce adaptable pieces.
