JUST A CARD – Support Independent Makers & Shops this Christmas

“If everyone who’d complimented our beautiful gallery
had bought just a card we’d still be open.”

When Sarah Hamilton read this quote by shop keepers who’d recently closed their gallery she thought – enough is enough – we need to fight back! As an artist and designer, who also makes cards, Sarah knows just how valuable each and every sale is, not only to the independent shops and galleries which make our high streets unique, but to their artists and designer suppliers. Regrettably it’s too late for that gallery, but others need  valuable support. That’s why Sarah started the JUST A CARD campaign – to encourage people to appreciate just how invaluable every single purchase is.

We’re giving our support to the campaign and you can help to spread the word that each sale keeps artists making and shops and galleries open by getting involved yourself.

How you can help

  • Please click here to register your support for the JUST A CARD Thunderclap Campaign before December 3rd.
  • Buy JUST A CARD, or some jewellery, artwork, ceramics or other handmade work from one of our independent studios here at MCDC, or from an exhibition or craft fair
  • Spread the word by telling family and friends about the campaign and by sharing it on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram using #Justacard
  • You can follow the campaign’s progress in Mollie Makes magazine and on the website justacard.org

Supporting local businesses is crucial if we want to keep our local High Street alive and buzzing with independent, exciting  and creative shops. Don’t just talk about it, do something about it: shop locally and you will make a real difference!
Patricia van den Akker – Director of  The Design Trust.

“A small purchase can make a huge difference if we all get involved. At Mollie Makes we are all about working together to support our creative community – it keeps us mindful in our buying choices, as well as spreading the joy of beautiful, thoughtful designs.”
